5. Sigh

So, last day of the half-term holidays.

One of my favourite Peanuts story lines is when Charlie Brown has been set the holiday assignment of reading and reviewing Gulliver’s Travels.  He spends the week procrastinating, sits down towards the end of the holidays, opens up the book and says ‘Good Grief, this book has 522 pages’.  In the next frame, he’s closing the book saying ‘I’ll start it tomorrow.’

The final sequence shows him slouching home from school, hollow-eyed.  Miss Othmar had said his review looked like it had been written by someone who had only finished reading the book at two o’clock in the morning.  ‘I could only congratulate her on her perceptivity,’ he tells Linus.

For ‘book review’ insert ‘medium term planning, weekly planning, lesson plans for Monday and maths assessment analysis’.  Slip in, if you like, the pile of ironing about which I said to ActorLaddie at the start of the week ‘leave my stuff – I’m on holiday, I’ll do it.’

Sigh.
